Zach’s running blog MW Tournament: Semifinals 6 UNM vs. 7 CSU

We are back for the third day in a row for the Semifinal match-up between the 6-seed New Mexico Lobos (24-9) and the 7-seed Colorado State Rams (24-9). The Lobos have handled both their first two games extremely well against two completely different teams in Air Force and Boise State. The game has become even more important than it looked like it would a few days ago with a lot of similar teams winning in their Conference Tournaments. Before everyone freaks out, we have no idea what the committee thinks about the teams after the top 20ish. We will be updating this as the game goes along.

Starters for the game:

CSU:

Isaiah Stevens, Josiah Strong, Nique Clifford, Joel Strong, Patrick Cartier.

UNM:

Donovan Dent, Jaelen House, Jamal Mashburn Jr., JT Toppin, Nelly Junior Joseph.

17:36 1H: Lobos 9 CSU 0. That’s a way to start a game. House with 5 early points, and the Lobos are having fun early.

15:35 1H: Lobos 11 CSU 0. Lobos have dominated the first 4:25, they have to keep on the gas and put an end to this one early.

11:02 1H: Lobos 17 CSU 11. CSU came back with a couple of 3s and a 3-point play after the 11-0 start by the Lobos. House has 7 early points to lead the way for the Lobos.

7:16 1H: Lobos 23 CSU 23.

2:19 1H: Lobos 32 CSU 25. Great response by the Lobos after CSU was able to tie it up.

Halftime: Lobos 33 CSU 25. Lobos were able to finish out the half strong. Something to monitor, Isaiah Stevens went to the locker room early for CSU.

Lobos will enter the half with only Dent with more than 1 foul. Stevens has a limp but will give it a go for CSU. Get up 15+ they will probably pull him.

Clifford just picked up foul number 3 for CSU. 18 minutes left.

15:34 2H: Lobos 39 CSU 31.

15:00 2H: Lobos 41 CSU 31. Lobos use their second timeout.

12:00 2H: Lobos 51 CSU 38. Lobos have received great minutes from Baker Jr. the last two nights. He has 2 big threes tonight.

7:10 2H: Lobos 58 CSU 44. Lobos will have the ball after the jump ball. Amzil has been great for the Lobos. He has 10 points, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. House with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists.

4:45 2H: Lobos 61 CSU 54.

3:25 2H: Lobos 65 CSU 54. Great 1:20 there by the Lobos with Toppin scoring all 4 including a putback. CSU will be in the bonus after the next foul.

1:09 2H: Lobos 68 CSU 59. CSU hits 1 FT gets the rebound and scores a bucket to make it a 9-point game. Lobos will have the ball with a 1-1 likely coming. CSU does have the possession arrow.

Final: Lobos 74 CSU 61. Lobos move to 25-9 and will take on SDSU in the Championship Game tomorrow on CBS. We will see you here tomorrow!
