Zach’s Running Blog: Lobos vs. Nevada 10/18/2025

The Lobos (3-3, 0-2 MW) return home for the first time since their win against NMSU in front of a sold out crowd at University Stadium with a few stars in attendance. Tonight the Lobos will take on the Nevada Wolf Pack (1-5, 0-2 MW) who’s lone win was a win against FCS Sac State. This is a key game for Coach Eck and Co. as they look to position themselves in a spot for a Bowl Game in Year One. If the Lobos are able to win this game tonight (they are favored), it would make the return of Bronco next week even more appealing. The Lobos will look to take better care of the ball as that has been a concern the last few weeks, if the Lobos are able to do that, there’s a good percentage chance that the Lobos will move to 4-3 and win their first MW game of the year. I will be updating this as the game goes along, and as always you can follow along on twitter and Blue Sky.

Looks like the game will be starting on FS2 as the game before is running late. We have about 5 minutes until the clock hits zero. Brian Urlacher is here tonight, lit up the balloon basket, and did the coin toss. Nevada wins the toss and will defer to the second half.

Lobos will start their day at the 25 after the kickoff went into the end zone. Humphrey with the first rush of the game. Bankston with a strong run to pick up the first down and keep the drive alive. Layne with a smart decision to not throw the ball and picks up 5 yards, but wasn’t able to get down to avoid a hit. Lobos pick up a first down on 4th and 5 after an offsides penalty on Nevada. Layne finds DT for a big gain, to set the Lobos up inside the 30. Lobos pick up a first down on 4th and a foot on the keeper by Laubstein. Lobos have the ball inside the 10. Nevada with a DPI on 3rd and long keeps the drive alive again for the Lobos. McKinney finishes the drive off with a 2 yard rush, to give the Lobos the early 7-0 lead.

7:16 1Q: Lobos 7 Nevada 0.

Nevada will start their day at the 19. After back-2-back media TOs, the Lobos force a 3 and out. Massive play in special teams as Nevada has a massive punt, and a blunder by the Lobos sets up Nevada at the +17. Nevada with a 33 yard FG to make it 7-3 Lobos. The defense with another impressive series with their backs against the wall. Can’t make those mistakes, and not having a punt returner back there is starting to look like a good option.

3:41 1Q: Lobos 7 Nevada 3.

Lobos drive will start from their 25. A nice run by Humphrey sets the Lobos up in a good spot, but nothing else doing for the Lobos on the drive, and a sack on 4th down gives the Nevada the ball at their 49.

Layne with the keeper on 3rd and 3, and picks up the first down. Layne to DT for the big gain and a personal foul. QB2 to QB1 to Q2 for the first down and give the Lobos a first and goal from the 7. A false start pushes it back to the 12, and Nevada calls a TO. Another DPI will have the ball at the 2. After a wild ride to get to 4th and goal from the 2, the Lobos take a 14-3 lead on a Humphrey 2 yard run.

Nevada will start their drive at the 25. Nevada with a big pass play on 3rd and 6 to keep this drive alive. Nevada will have a 4th and 2 coming up from their 19. Nevada isn’t as progressive in their willingness to go for it on 4th down, they kick the 36-yard FG.

What a catch by Nevada to set them up in the + side of the field. Another great catch gets Nevada into field goal range, and the Lobos hold Nevada to 3 points on the drive to make it 24-22.

10:55 4Q: Lobos 24 Nevada 22.

Drive will start at the 25. Massive pass play by Layne to McKinney, but McKinney is down. McKinney is back in the game after missing a play or two. Johnson with a massive first down pick up. Layne has been a weapon in the run game. Lobos drive stalls, and the Lobos miss the field goal.
