The Lobos (4-3, 1-2) coming off a win over Nevada last week, are set to host Utah State (4-3, 2-1) and former Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall. If the Lobos are able to clean things up today they will have a decent shot at move with in one win of a bowl game in year 1 of the Jason Eck Era. The Turquoise looks beautiful after a very long time in the vault (1979). Excited to see how this game plays out. I will be updating this as the game is happening.

We have 5 minutes on the clock. Game should be starting around 1:07. No surprise, big cheers for the Lobos and Jason Eck, loud boos for Bronco Mendenhall and USU. USU wins the toss and will defer to the second half. Lobos will get the ball to start the game.

Kick off goes out of bounds and the Lobos will start the game at the 35. Lobos end up with a 4th and 2 at their own 43, Eck waste no time to go for it, and they pick it up. Nice play by Layne to find McKinney for a dump of pass play for a first down. Lobos get to a 3rd and 2 and 4th and 2, but a holding forces the Lobos to punt.

I guess we are all stupid and the punt return game can be a positive for the Lobos. We will have a review, but at the moment the Lobos have a punt return for a TD. USU with a massive break, as they butcher the kickoff, but get the ball at the 25 because they gained possession in the end zone. USU with a solid drive, but a holding penalty sets them back to a first and 20. Lobos with a pick in the end zone to give the Lobos the ball at their 20.

Lobos are moving the ball well. Smart decision by Layne, and a big pass play has the Lobos inside the 20.

End of 1Q: Lobos 7 USU 0. Lobos will have a 2nd and 5 from the 16, looking to take a nice lead on USU early. QB1 Jack Layne has been impressive so far today. The Lobos are set up inside the 5, with a 3rd and goal from the 2, USU has already called their second TO of the half. McKinney with the score from 2 yards out to make it 14-0. What a start for the team in Turquoise.

Lobos will start their drive at the 20. Feels like the Lobos can put this game to bed with a long scoring drive. Layne to DT for the 17 yard pass play. Lobos aren’t able to do much else, but are able to take some time off the clock, and a decent punt has USU with the ball at their 14.

Lobos get stopped on 3rd and short, but a great fake punt gets them a first down, and keeps the drive alive. Lobos pick up another first down, and have the ball at the +42. What a run by Bankston, as he breaks a couple of tackles and takes it to the house for the score. You’ll see that one for a while.
