In what would feel like an unprecedented event if it didn’t seem to happen every couple of years, there’s been another seismic shift in the college sports landscape. However, this one feels like the beginning to something bigger and will likely have serious ramifications for the future prospects of many universities, including UNM. In fact, it seems like such a big deal that I actually decided to come out of whatever rock I’ve been hiding under and start writing again.

We’re Back!!!
Does this thing still work? The answer to that is yes. As we all know the last 15+ months have been a crazy time for the world, ourselves, and our communities. That is part of the reason that we haven’t done much besides some podcasts and keeping everyone up to date as much as possible on Twitter. Things have been crazy in the world of the Lane Brothers and some things may change moving forward, but I (Zach) can assure you that Lobo Lane is alive and well, and there are plenty of things that we will be working on very soon.
I (Zach) have launched a new Media Venture called Starting Blox Studios, and have a few other things in the works, but with the start of the new Athletic School Year for UNM Athletics, not much will change from the first few years of this blog. I will do my best to get as many previews and recaps as possible (the return of Zach’s Reacts), and I will also try to have at least one podcast a week once the calendar starts. I am recharged and ready to go and looking forward to our interactions this upcoming year. As for Jono, I don’t know how much he will be able to do this upcoming year, he will likely continue to edit most posts and have some posts here and there when he can. As always the foundation of Lobo Lane will always be Jono and I, and that will never change. I hope that Jono will be able to do a good percentage of the Podcasts with me this season, but that will be seen at a later date.
Some exciting things for the Podcast: you will be able to hear from some other voices besides just Jono and me. I am excited to see how the Podcast can evolve with the new guests and formats that can come from this. If there are people that you would like for me to try and get on the Podcast you can tell me on Twitter.
I am excited that Lobo Sports will be returning very soon, and the Lobo Lane will be back to our old ways! Here’s to a great year of Lobo Sports with many great stories and Championships! Cheers.
Zach’s Reacts: Mountain West Media Rights Deal
We have a deal! The Mountain West has reached a media rights deal that will earn the conference a pretty nice pay raise over the next few years. After many years of being an afterthought for the most part with ESPN – including putting MW games on ESPN3, late-night ESPNU, or, if you’re lucky, a late-night game on ESPN2 – the Mountain West will have games on Fox Sports and CBS Sports instead of ESPN. While there will be some negative comments that you will hear from people, such as “Why would you leave ESPN?”, I believe that this is a really good thing for the MW and could prove to be a very important day for the conference and its universities. Here are some of the things that stand out to me with this new media deal:

We’re Back!
A look back at the Paul Krebs Era
At the beginning of June, Paul Krebs announced that he was retiring from his post as the UNM Athletic Director at the end of the month. During his time at the helm of Lobo Athletics, the department had some of its best years, highlighted by a National Championship in Women’s Cross-Country in the fall of 2015. Krebs tenure had plenty of great things, but it is undeniable that there were some bad things that happened under his watch. To try to make sense of his legacy, here we look back at both the highs and the lows of the Krebs Era.
Weekly Roundup (1/16/2017)
After a lengthy break, we’re bringing back the Weekly Round-up to stay up to date with all Lobo sports! In the weekly round-ups we will have a recap of the results, key performances, and awards for the various sports, while also taking a look at what is coming up in the next week.
UNM to the Big 12?
The Big 12 is planning on expanding to, um, 12 teams soon, as reported by just about everyone. So the obvious question that people are asking is which universities, exactly, will be the lucky two to find a golden ticket in their chocolate, so to speak? Lots of names have been thrown around, but what makes this round of expansion so interesting is that the Big 12 has basically opened up the floor for interested parties to nominate themselves. It made it almost irresponsible for any athletic director from a non-Power 5 university to not express interest. Because of that, the Big 12 is reportedly going to listen to the pitches of a whopping 18 universities, including UNM, before making a decision.
