On Saturday, the Lobos blasted the University of Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, 59-17 to improve to 4-3 on the season. The final score actually manages to hide how big of a blowout it really was, as the Lobos pulled their starters in the third quarter when they were leading 52-3. A dominating win like that certainly gives the team some confidence heading into the final stretch of conference games, and hopefully does the same for the fans as well. Lobo Football vs UL-Monroe Game Preview
A week after a hard-fought and emotional win against Air Force in the Cotton Bowl, the Lobos return home for their last out-of-conference game of the year. Their opponent is the University of Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, who are conference-mates of NMSU in the Sun Belt. A win would put the Lobos back above .500 for the first time since the first game of the season and put them in a good position to become bowl-eligible heading into the last part of the season.
Thoughts on Lobo Football’s win vs. Air Force
A week after getting crushed at home by a tough Boise State squad, the Lobos were sitting at 2-3 and heading out of town to face what was probably the toughest opponent remaining on their schedule. Needless to say, it looked like they were in a bad place. However, rather than choosing to stand by and let their season collapse around them, the Lobos picked themselves up and played their best game all season to beat the Air Force Falcons 45-40. They’re now 3-3 on the season, including 2-1 in conference play, and are starting to look like the team we were hoping they would be going into the season.
Football vs. Air Force Game Preview
Coming off of a beating at the hand of Boise State, the Lobos will look to regroup this weekend when they play Air Force in a neutral game in the Cotton Bowl. Last year, the Lobos won a wild one against the Falcons, 47-35, and I have a feeling that this game will be similarly high-scoring.
Football vs Boise State Game Preview
Coming off a bounce-back win against San Jose State, the Lobos now turn their attention to their toughest opponent on the schedule: Boise State. The Broncos have gotten off to a good start already this year, going 4-0, and have dreams of making a BCS bowl. On top of that, they’re not thrilled about what happened last year, when the Lobos rudely went into Boise and took away a 31-24 victory. That win was thought to be program defining, but another win against the Broncos this year could have an even greater effect. Hopefully University Stadium will be rocking on Friday night to help them out.
Thoughts on Lobo Football’s Win against SJSU
The Lobos snapped a two-game losing streak this past Saturday with their win against the San Jose Spartans. Even though the Lobos never trailed in the game, it still felt like an up-and-down affair, with the Lobo offense taking advantage of a weak Spartan defense to build leads, but the Lobo defense letting the Spartans get back into the game. Ultimately, the Lobos came away with a 48-41 win to move to 2-2 on the season, including a 1-0 record in conference play, and we came away with a few thoughts:

After having an extra week to lick their wounds after a disappointing loss at Rutgers, the Lobos return to action against San Jose State, in what will serve as the conference season opener for both teams. Both teams have had their struggles this year and are undoubtedly looking to start the conference season out on a good note.
Where Things Stand for Lobo Football
We’re only a few weeks into the college football season, but it’s already been an eventful season for the Lobos, particularly with two consecutive gut-punch losses heading into a break. With the team having a bye week this past weekend and conference play starting in earnest this weekend, I figured that it would be a good time to see where things stand for the Lobos and the conference, and look to see where they go from here.
Thoughts on Lobo Football’s Loss against Rutgers
The Lobos had a brunch-time matchup today with Rutgers, looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss to NMSU and come home with a 2-1 record. For a quarter, it looked like that was going to happen, and comfortably, as they quickly jumped out to a 21-0 lead. Then, while playing one of the most disastrous quarters in recent memory, they allowed Rutgers to score 31 straight points, setting up a 37-28 loss.
Lobo Football at Rutgers Preview
After a surprising and devastating loss to their in-state rivals, the Lobos apparently decided to get as far away from New Mexico as they can. They’ll be in New Jersey this weekend, taking on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in hopes of rebounding from their loss to the Aggies. It feels like an opportunity for the Lobos to pick up a nice win while collecting a big paycheck, but they’ll have to overcome the absence of a couple of key players to do so.
