After a rough trip to Colorado, the Lobos look to get back to form against Fresno State. Once again, this game is for second place in the conference and again, a win would give the Lobos a series sweep and the tiebreaker for seeding purposes should the two teams finish with the same record. It’s definitely crunch time for the season and it feels like anything can happen, so I’m excited to see what the next couple of weeks holds for the team.
Lobo Baseball vs. Wichita State Series Preview
Baseball season has finally arrived to Albuquerque! The Lobos (3-1) will play their first home series of the season against the Wichita State University Shockers (2-2) in what should be a competitive matchup. The Lobos look to build off their great weekend in Hawai’i, where they were able to go 3-1 against the Rainbow Warriors. The Lobos did a great job making Hawai’i’s pitchers throw strikes, as the Lobos offense already has 41 free bases (38 walks, 3 HBP), while striking out only 30 times in the four games. The pitching staff for the Lobos were able to command the strike zone, allowing only 19 free bases (18 walks, 1 HBP). If the Lobos can continue this, it will allow the starters to work deeper in the game, and force the other teams to go to their bullpens earlier.
Lobo Baseball- Hawai’i Series Recap
The Lobos (3-1) opened up their season with a four game series at Hawai’I this past weekend. Sometimes, playing at a place like Hawai’i for the first four games of the season can hurt, as you are too excited to be in such a place that you lose sight of playing baseball. The Lobos didn’t allow the distraction of being in Hawai’i get in the way of having a very good weekend on the diamond. The Lobos won the games on Friday, Sunday and Monday, only dropping the game on Saturday in the eleventh inning. It was a very impressive weekend for the Lobos, making me excited for the season and to watch the three games this weekend against a solid Wichita State program.
Men’s Basketball at Colorado St. Recap
In my preview, I mentioned that I was worried that we’d see another letdown game on the road after a disappointing road loss. Unfortunately, my worries were confirmed, as the team had a performance that was frustrating for everyone involved. They’re still in an okay position in the conference, as they control their destiny for second place, but they’ll have to regroup from this one so they can finish the season strong.
Women’s Basketball: CSU Game Preview
The Lobos (14-11, 7-7) are coming off two straight wins to get back to .500 in conference play, the most impressive win coming at Boise State, where they controlled the game from the opening tip. The home game against Air Force went as everyone expected, with the Lobos leaving no doubt into who would win the game. One thing that could have sparked the win streak that the Lobos are on was Coach Sanchez inserting Jaisa Nunn and Jayda Bovero into the starting lineup. Nunn has been really good as a freshman for the Lobos and once she is able to play 30 minutes a game at a high level, she will be an All-Conference caliber player.
Men’s Basketball at Colorado St. Preview
After a disappointing loss at Air Force, the Lobos now turn their attention to Colorado State. CSU has been struggling recently, but strange things, both good and bad, seem to happen to the Lobos at Moby Arena, so it should be an entertaining game. Four games left before the MWC Tournament. Let’s do this.
Men’s Basketball at Air Force Recap
In the first game of their two-game Colorado road trip, the Lobos defense collapsed in the second half against the home version of Air Force, eventually falling 76-72. That now leaves them needing to pick up a win against Colorado State in Ft. Collins to keep their second-place position in the conference standings.
UNM Baseball Season Preview: Part 2
In Part 1 of our preview, we got to know all of the players and took a look at the team as a whole. In this Part 2, we look at each position on the field to get a sense of what players we might expect to see filling those roles. Here is our position by position breakdown, with expected starters and players that could see time at that position.
Men’s Basketball at Air Force Preview
After an amazing, memorable win against Boise St., the Lobos now turn their attention to a two-game road trip through Colorado. The first stop is against Air Force, who the Lobos beat 84-55 a few weeks ago. However, that was the Road Falcons and this will be the Home Falcons. Believe me, they’re completely different teams.
